Patent Law ALERT!

September 14, 1998

Dear Senators, Representatives and Editors:

I received the attached e-mail, sent by the American Electronics Association to all of its members. In it, there is a request that each of its members contact their Senators to support Senate Bill S507 which is designed to change -- forever -- the successful Patent System of the United States. This bill is being bundled and hidden in the Bankruptcy bill planned for a vote on Wednesday November 16th.

Please read my letter of response to her and her email. Determine for yourself whether she is sponsoring the destruction of American technology or its survival.

Very truly yours,

George Margolin

Ms Stitzer -- I am sorry to have to tell you this, but you and your organization are attempting to destroy the United States of America.

You have sent to your members a request to GUT the only working and useful patent system in the world. This is the patent system the Japanese and Chinese wish to eliminate. It is clear, from your letter, that you and your organization are their allies.

Each and every "benefit" you have stated in your writing which follows this letter -- is put there in an attempt to CORRECT only some of the many serious failings inherent in S507. In other words -- if S507 did not exist -- there would be no reason for the corrections since the current patent system doesn't cause the problems caused by S507.

THE US PATENT SYSTEM -- LIKE A MATRONLY AND SAFE 747

Our 208 year old American Patent System is like the 747 Jet. A bit big in the fanny, but the safest jet plane the world has ever known It is the current evolution of the famous clipper ships that carried America into the forefront of trading throughout the world in the 1700s. It has grown and evolved into the most reliable and nurturing carrier of America's most precious cargo -- its growing and evolving technological Intellectual Property.

Yet even with all its 30 years of testing, improvement and evolution -- there have been a few unexplained crashes, outright sabotage and bombings of this marvelous plane. Crashes of the most evolved airplane in the world! Who would want to replace it with a totally untested and untestable, kluged-together copy, produced by unskilled labor in the dark of the night? It seems that Senator Hatch would!!

Senator Hatch and his cohorts are scheming to scam S507 into a Bankruptcy bill in the Senate THIS WEEK. This bill is DESIGNED to scuttle and bankrupt the technology and prosperity of America. It will replace our WORKING and evolved system with an untested and untestable system that has NO precedents.

In effect -- it is an attempt to replace the most esteemed and reliable 747-like Patent System, with a botched together, obscene and foreign copy that has ill fitting and inadequate wings, unmatched and untested engines, fuel system -- an ill defined fuselage and a rudder which is controlled by foreign governments.

IT CANNOT FLY! But it WILL CRASH!

And in this crash site will lie the broken bodies, bones and brains of the best and brightest America has ever had. The inventors, creators and entrepreneurs -- the very people with the very skills that America MUST HAVE to compete in the coming century -- the coming Millennium!.

This bill is designed to eliminate creative Americans. Because they are the very people that NOT INVENTIVE countries and companies cannot compete with..

What adult AMERICAN in his or her right mind, would make so many changes -- ALL AT ONCE -- to a working system? Why are YOU trying to do it?

NO TEST, NO PARACHUTE, NO SAFETY NET, NO RETURN TO SANITY WILL BE POSSIBLE -- SINCE THIS MONSTROUS LEGISLATION IS AN ALL OR NOTHING CORRUPTION OF OUR PATENT SYSTEM -- THE ONLY PATENT SYSTEM THAT WORKS!

Yours in horror,

George Margolin

Patent Reform Update

September 14, 1998

SENATE EXPECTED TO VOTE ON S.507 ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15

The Senate is expected to vote on S.507, the 'Omnibus Patent Act,' tomorrow!

Senator Hatch will (hide)offer S.507 as an amendment to the pending bankruptcy

bill (S.1301). Specifically, S.507 will: create a more efficient and

responsive Patent and Trademark Office (PTO); establish a right to royalty

for published patent applications; require publication of patents 18 months

after filing if applications are also filed abroad; and broaden authority

to extend patent terms to compensate for administrative delays in the PTO that

are not caused by the applicant. (All of the above are attempts at correcting the errors that would be CAUSED by S507. Without S507 no need to correct these errors. Other than correcting the errors that it causes -- what is GOOD about S507. Nothing that we have heard.)

**Member companies are encouraged to contact your Senators as soon as

possible and urge them to vote for the 'Hatch Intellectual Property

Amendment' to the bankruptcy bill. You may look up the names of your

Senators on the Internet at http://congress.nw.dc.us/rollcall

<http://congress.nw.dc.us/rollcall . (Sounds like a conspiracy to me.)

Suggested talking points:

* Reforming the patent system is critical to continue to encourage the

innovation that has resulted in the tremendous growth and global

competitiveness of U.S. high tech companies.(A LIE AND BACKWARDS)

* S.507 will prepare the Patent and Trademark Office for the

challenges of the future while protecting the interests of American

inventors and innovators.(A PATENT LIE)

* The reforms contained in S.507 will make it easier for U.S.

inventors and companies to research, develop, and commercialize inventions.

ABSOLUTE HOGWASH!

have questions or need additional information. Thanks for your help in

passing this important legislation that will benefit the high tech industry!
